In Pune, a 17-year-old boy, who was behind the wheels of a Porsche, ended up hitting a bike on May 18. The accident claimed the lives of a man and a woman. Within 15 hours of the accident, the teenager was granted bail. Police officials say the court found the crime not 'serious' enough to deny bail.

The two who were killed in the accident were twenty-four-year-olds Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both engineers from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune, who were returning on a bike after attending a get-together with friends.  A video also went viral in which the teenager was being thrashed by a crowd at the accident scene.

According to the court's order, several conditions were imposed on the teenager's release, which included working with traffic police for 15 days, writing a 300-word essay on the "effect of road accidents and their solution", undergoing psychiatric evaluation and treatment, seeking rehabilitation at a de-addiction centre, and assisting accident victims in the future, if he witnesses one.

According to reports, the teenager is the son of a prominent Pune realtor. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said police had urged the court to treat the accused as an adult because this is a heinous crime and sought his custody.
