At least 7 people lost their lives and around 49 others were injured after a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus rammed into pedestrians and vehicles in Mumbai's Kurla area on Monday night, authorities said.
Incident Details
The accident occurred around 9:45 pm when the driver of BEST Route 332, traveling from Kurla Station to Andheri, lost control. The bus struck multiple vehicles and pedestrians before crashing into a housing society wall. Chaos erupted as the bus plowed through its path, leaving a trail of destruction.
Victims and Response
The deceased have been identified as Kannis Fatima Ansari, Shivam Kashyap, Afreen Abdul Salim Shah, and Anam Shaikh. Local residents rushed the injured to Bhabha Hospital, while emergency services, including the police and fire brigade, promptly arrived at the scene. Many of the injured are still receiving treatment.
Investigation Underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Ganesh Gawde confirmed the driver's detention and announced an inquiry to determine the cause. A forensic team inspected the site, and CCTV footage showing the speeding bus is being analyzed. A case has been registered as investigations continue.
