Manipur government has announced that families with more than four children will be excluded from government benefits including jobs.

The state cabinet has also approved the constitution of Manipur State Population Commission which will nullify beneficiary schemes for all members of the families having over 4 children.

Biren Singh-led government’s decision is apparently aimed at population control. BJP had earlier moved a private member's resolution over alleged infiltration of outsiders after Manipur's population grew drastically to about 28.56 lakh in the last census.

Earlier, Assam government had implemented similar population control measures in the state, limiting number of children to two.
