At this year's Met Gala, India was represented by businesswoman Natasha Poonawalla. The executive director of vaccine production company Serum Institute of India wore a dress by designer Sabyasachi.

Describing her dress, Natasha, who is married to SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said that the 2022 Met Gala had a "prescient theme" in 'Gilded Glamour' which "resonates more strongly today than ever before".

Natasha added, "On the one hand, we see astronomical progress — to the degree that we’ve conquered space — and on the other hand we’re quick to police women or the vulnerable among us, their bodies, their choices, and their opportunities. It’s a bit like the golden cage."
