A group of 27 people from Meghalaya who were stuck in war-hit Israel have managed to reach Egypt. Rajya Sabha MP and NPP chief WR Kharlukhi, his wife and daughter were among the 27 who escaped the warzone.

The group had embarked on a holy pilgrimage to Jerusalem when they were caught in the crossfire.

In a post, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma credited the foreign ministry and the Indian mission for the safe passage of the tourists.

The latest conflict between Israel and Hamas started on October 7 following missile strikes by the Gaza-based militant group.
