"Wait and Watch. It's show time," warned Hyderabad BJP MLA's supporters in a video message after police detained their colleague T Raja Singh following his repeated threats to not allow stand-up comedian Munawar Farooqi's show in Hyderabad.
The police took Singh's preventive custody after he attempted to go to the venue where Munawar was to perform. It said the MLA has not been arrested.
Prior to comedian's August 20 show, Singh in a video message threatened that he will set the venue on fire if Faruqui was allowed to perform.
He said if anything goes wrong KTR government will have to be blamed.
In a video message, Singh asked the police to cancel the show saying peace and harmony should not be disturbed. "If police don't pay heed, should we sit idle," he added.
Earlier, Singh had protested Faruqi's show in Hyderabad alleging that he insults Hindu Gods. The comedian's January 9 show was called-off in the city likely reportedly after saffron party's opposition. Though his team had cited rising COVID cases for the cancellation
In December 2021, Telangana government had invited Faruqui to perform in Hyderababd after his show was cancelled in Bengaluru owing to the protests by right wing leaders.
