Lakhimpur Kheri is in the eye of a political storm that has erupted since the son of a Union Minister has been accused of running his car over a gathering of peaceful protesters killing four farmers. Violence erupted and the farmers burnt down the cars of the convoy in retaliation, killing another 4. Meanwhile, the opposition is up in arms against the Yogi government to take action against the accused. The accused, Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra failed to turn up before the Lakhimpur Police to record his statement. Ashish had been summoned to appear at 10 am on Friday in the Crime Branch office in the reserve police lines. With state elections expected to be held in Uttar Pradesh in 2022, could this turn the tide for the Yogi government?
