3 dead as Guwahati-Bikaner Express derails in West Bengal

At least three people were killed and more than 20 injured when 12 coaches of Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed and overturned near Dohomoni in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on Thursday, Indian Railways officials said.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted that he is personally monitoring the rescue operations and has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the accident. 

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee too tweeted that senior officials of her govt are co-ordinating search and rescue operations.

The Indian Railways has announced compensation of ₹5 lakhs for deceased, ₹1 lakh for severely injured, and ₹25,000 for those with minor injuries.
