Noted Malayalam playback singer Edava Basheer died on Saturday during a live performance. He was 78 years old.

The singer died while performing in a programme organised by the Blue Diamond orchestra, which he was a part of. He was rendering the Hindi song 'Mano ho tum' when he suddenly fell on stage. He was rushed to a private hospital at in Kollam district.

The singer had been performing since his school days and has earned many awards and accolades for his music.

Tributes poured in as the news of his death spread.
