Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched 5G services in the country at the 6th India Mobile Congress in the national capital.
The service is expected to cover the entire country in coming years however, initially it will be rolled out in a phased manner. During the first phase, cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune would get the fast speed 5G internet services.
At the India Mobile Congress, Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea- the three major telecom operators of the country- demonstrated various use cases of 5G technology in front of PM Modi.
Launching 5G telecom services in eight cities, including four metros, from October 1, Bharti Airtel announced to progressively cover the entire country by March 2024.
Meanwhile billionaire Mukesh Ambani announced at the India Mobile Congress that his telcom firm Reliance Jio will launch 5G services across the country by December 2023
The newly launched services are expected to widely improve sectors like education, mining, telemedicine and warehousing.
India being the second largest smartphone market in the world after China, %G services are expected to give a great boost to the Indian economy too.
