On the sidelines of the bilateral talks, Bangladesh and India signed 7 MoUs in the presence of PM Narendra Modi and his counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Delhi’s Hyderabad house including a key pact on sharing water of Kushiyara river.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina was welcomed by her Indian counterpart at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the national capital where she was accorded the ceremonial Guard of Honour. Hasina arrived in India on Monday on a 4-day visit.
“Trade between India-Bangladesh is increasing rapidly. We have decided to extend cooperation in the IT, Space and Nuclear sectors. Talks are also underway between India and Bangladesh on power transmission lines.", PM Modi said while addressing a joint press conference with his counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Delhi.
Notably, Bangladesh is India’s key partner under the latter's ‘Neighbourhood First' policy.
On September 5 2022, Hasina met India’s foriegn minister S Jaishankar and raised the issue of instability in the Rakhine state of Myanmar and concerns that it could spread further.
