In a startling revelation, the battle against the illicit liquor trade in Uttar Pradesh has taken a bizarre turn, with the liquor mafia resorting to an ingenious method to evade law enforcement and bolster their sales during the election season. The unconventional conduit for their operations? Hand pumps.
In a small hamlet known as Basariya Dera, nestled within Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district, police found a hand pump which was dispensing alcohol instead of water. A video of this discovery is doing rounds on the internet.
Over the past month, the Uttar Pradesh excise department has managed to seize a staggering 9,749 litres of illicit liquor. Police further said that they recovered around 80 litres of country-made alcohol, which were stored in the barrels, lying buried beneath the ground in Basariya Dera in Jhansi.
