Bengal: BJP leader shot dead on highway

Amid a fierce war of words between the ruling TMC and Opposition BJP in West Bengal over the law and order situation, a BJP leader was shot dead on a national highway on 1 April 2023.

BJP's Raju Jha had stopped at Shaktigarh while on his way to Kolkata, when a car stopped nearby and the passengers opened fire. Police said that they were trying to identify the killers.

Jha, who was accused of running an illegal coal business, had joined BJP ahead of the 2021 state elections.
