Around 9 months after the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma for remarks against Muhammad, who is considered a prophet in Islam, another BJP leader made controversial comments regarding the practice of 'azaan'.
Karnataka BJP leader KS Eshwarappa made the comments while addressing a gathering in Mangaluru on 12 March 2023. His speech was interrupted by the azaan, and he subsequently said that the practice had become a "headache" for him.
Eshwarappa followed up with controversial statements regarding azaan, microphones, and Allah. A day later, he issued a clarification, saying that he was not condemning any religion, but only voicing the feelings of the general public.
