With Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expected to appeal against his conviction and jail sentence in a defamation case, Union law minister Kiren Rijiju accused the Opposition party of "doing drama".

"After courts have convicted someone, then this drama is an attempt to pressurise and intimidate higher judiciary," he said.

The BJP leader added, "This is Congress' drama. Congress party considers one family above the nation. For Congress, court, democracy - nothing matters."

His comments came on the day that Gandhi is travelling to Surat from Delhi to file an appeal in the sessions court.
