Congress has nominated Alka Lamba to contest the Kalkaji seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025.
She will face off against Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister’s ally, in this high-stakes contest.
The Congress Central Election Committee officially approved her candidacy for the 51-Kalkaji constituency.
Alka Lamba, who is the current president of the All India Mahila Congress, has a history with AAP. After leaving Congress in 2014, she joined AAP but returned to Congress in 2019.
Lamba was elected to the Delhi Assembly from the Chandni Chowk constituency in 2015 under the AAP banner.
Her split with AAP occurred when she opposed the party's resolution to revoke the Bharat Ratna awarded to Rajiv Gandhi.
In 2018, Lamba publicly rejected the resolution and made it clear she was prepared to face any consequences for standing by her opposition.
