With heavy security being deployed for the meeting of councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on 24 January 2023, the Aam Aadmi Party feared a conspiracy hatched by the BJP.

Security was deployed after violence broke out during the MCD session on 6 January which led to the postponement of the mayoral election.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said, "I have been elected to the Assembly thrice. I have never seen inside the Assembly... the deployment of hundreds of paramilitary personnel."

"It is a riot-controlling force. Their mandate was limited to outside the Assembly. This is unprecedented," he added. Bharadwaj slammed BJP by saying, "You (BJP) are trying to threaten and intimidate to occupy the MCD. This is very wrong."
