Amid clashes between AAP and BJP councillors, the maiden meeting of the newly elected MCD House was adjourned without electing the mayor and the deputy mayor on Friday.

The disruption reportedly began as Satya Sharma, the interim presiding officer appointed by Delhi Lieutenant Governor, began the oath-taking ceremony of 10 aldermen.

AAP members reportedly demanded that oath-taking of elected councillors be held first.

Some councillors of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party raised slogans and engaged in physical altercations.

The house was first adjourned for an hour and later for the day as councillors continued to physically clash and push each other for hours.

The next date for the election will be announced later.

The Congress has decided not to take part in the voting.
