The Maharashtra govt has invoked sedition charges against independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana for allegedly challenging the government machinery and making remarks against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The couple, who were arrested by Mumbai Police on Saturday, have been sent to jail for 14 days after a Mumbai court rejected the police's demand for their custody.
Badnera MLA Ravi Rana and his wife Navneet Rana, the MP from Amravati in Maharashtra, were arrested for allegedly "creating enmity between different groups".
They have also been booked for allegedly using 'criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty'
The development came hours after the couple cancelled their plan to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's private residence.
