Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP veteran B S Yediyurappa have said the row over halal and hijab that had rocked the state in the recent past was 'unnecessary' pointing out that Hindus and Muslims should live like 'brothers and sisters'.
Yediyurappa's remarks came during a conversation with The Indian Express on Friday. Speaking with the publication, he said he is not going to support such things, adding that from the very beginning, he has taken this stand.
Notably, BSY's comment comes in the run-up to the state assembly election scheduled for May 10. The BJP has given a ticket to Yashpal Sharma, who has been vocal against students seeking to wear headscarves in educational institutions.
