Amid a growing political debate over the alleged practice of 'love jihad', or conversion to Islam through romantic relationships, a report in The Hindu has highlighted harassment of Hindu girls for friendships with Muslim youth.
The report cites the cases of Hindu girls from Jharkhand to Uttar Pradesh, who allegedly received rape and murder threats online. One of the victims is allegedly being targeted for posting an Instagram reel in which her head was covered.
Their personal details were reportedly shared on social media, adding to the atmosphere of fright. The girls are now trapped at home, and their studies and career prospects are suffering.
The Hindu report says that members of rightwing organisations like Bajrang Dal have also been visiting the girls' houses. The activists claim that it is to spread awareness.
