The opposition parties have targeted the government over the appointment of Justice Nazeer as Andhra Pradesh governor, days after he retired as a Supreme Court judge.
After the Congress, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra on 13 February slammed the appointment of Justice Nazeer, “Yet another SC judge appointed governor less than 2 months after retirement. Majoritarian govt doesn’t care about perception but how shameless are you, MiLord to accept it?”, Moitra said in a tweet.
Justice Syed Abdul Nazeer was appointed as the governor of Andhra Pradesh on 12 February.
Justice Nazeer, who retired on Janaury 4, 2023 has been part of many landmark verdicts, including the Ayodhya-Babri masjid case, Triple Talaq case, 2016 demonetisation case and the judgment that held that the right to privacy is a fundamental right.
