As the Gyanvapi Masjid and Shringar Gauri temple issue gathers steam, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that there was a "historical mistake" by the Muslim side, and it should step forward for resolution.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Adityanath referred to reports that non-Islamic features have been found on the walls of the building. The BJP leader asked that if Gyanvapi is a mosque then, "What is a trident doing there?"

He added that inside the structure there are statues of deities which have not been placed by Hindus.

Yogi reportedly said that if Gyanvapi is called a mosque, then there will be a dispute, and the government wants a resolution.
