Amid rumours of infighting in the Trinamool Congress, party supremo Mamata Banerjee announced members of the reconstituted National Working Committee.

Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee reportedly retained his post as TMC's All India General Secretary, amid speculation that he was leading the party's young turks in the tussle with the old guard.

With the reshuffle, TMC chief Mamata is being seen as doing a balancing act by including veteran leaders in the party's top decision-making body.

The other appointments reportedly include former Congress leaders Sushmita Dev and Mukul Sangma as handlers of party affairs in the northeast. Former Union minister and BJP defector Yashwant Sinha has reportedly been made Vice President, along with senior TMC leaders Subrata Bakshi and Chandrima Bhattacharya. Aroop Biswas is TMC treasurer, and Firhad Hakim is in-charge of coordination.

The reshuffle occurred amid reports of a rift in the party over the 'one person, one post' principle which reportedly irked the old guard.

The TMC recently won municipal elections in 4 major towns. Mamata Banerjee is now trying to realise her national ambitions by trying to stitch up closer ties with regional parties ahead of the 2024 general elections.
