Union minister Smriti Irani targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after his party colleague's "latka-jhatka" comment.
Irani tweeted on 19 December 2022 that she had heard that Rahul Gandhi indirectly announced his decision to contest from Amethi in 2024 through indecent remarks by a party leader.
Irani asked whether she should consider Rahul's decision final, or if he would "flee" to another seat, or "get scared". She added, "You & Mummy ji need to get your misogynistic goons a new speechwriter."
Earlier, Congress leader Ajai Rai had said that factories in Amethi are lying shut while the area's MP Smriti Irani "comes, shows 'latka-jhatka', and leaves".
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Smriti Irani had unseated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi had also contested from Wayanad in Kerala, and now represents the southern constituency in the Parliament.
