Facing a tough challenge against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat, Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi announced a slew of promises aimed at farmers, youth, and women.
Gandhi's promises included loan waiver of up to ₹3 lakh to farmers of Gujarat, LPG cylinder at ₹500 instead of ₹1,000, ₹5 per litre subsidy to milk producers, free electricity to farmers, and up to 300 units of free power to general consumers.
Gandhi said that a Congress government would create 10 lakh new jobs, build 3,000 English medium schools, and provide free education to girls. He was addressing a rally in Ahmedabad on 5 September 2022.
The Congress leader said that while the BJP government built Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Statue of Unity - the tallest in the world - the people that Patel fought for were ignored. Gandhi said that Patel was the voice of farmers, but the BJP government waived the loans of industrialists, and not farmers.
Gujarat is slated to go to polls towards the end of the year.
