Yet another controversy over historical figure Vinayak Damodar Savarkar has broken out in Karnataka.

Now, a passage on Savarkar in a revised school textbook has become a political hot potato. The textbook revision committee has added a section on Savarkar in the high school curriculum in Karnataka, as per reports.

A class 8 textbook now reportedly says, "There was not even a keyhole in the cell where Savarkar was incarcerated. But, Bulbul birds used to visit the room, and Savarkar used to sit on their wings and fly out and visit the motherland every day."

On 23 August 2022, the Bharatiya Janata Party flagged off a Savarkar Rath Yatra in Karnataka. While the BJP calls Savarkar a great freedom fighter, he is described as a British collaborator by the Congress.
