Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Member of Parliament Pragya Singh Thakur on 25 December 2022 reportedly exhorted the Hindu community to keep sharp knives at home for self-defence.
She was speaking at the Hindu Jagaran Vedike's south region annual convention in Karnataka's Shivamogga.
While condemning the so-called practice of love jihad, Pragya reportedly said that people must keep weapons at home, and if nothing else, sharpen knives used to cut vegetables. She said, "If someone infiltrates our house and attacks us, giving a befitting reply is our right."
"Do pujas at your home, read about your dharma and shastra, teach your children about it, so that children know about our culture and values," she added.
Warning parents against admitting their children to missionary institutions, she said, "the children won't be yours and of your culture. They grow in the culture of old age homes and become selfish."
She represents Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal constituency in the Lok Sabha.
