Amid soaring tomato prices, an Uttar Pradesh minister has reportedly said that if the kitchen staple is expensive, then people should stop eating it.

The comments were made by UP Minister of State for Women Development and Child Nutrition Pratibha Shukla on July 23.

She added that if people stop eating tomatoes, prices will inevitably come down. The minister said that instead of tomatoes, people can have lemons.

She also advised growing tomatoes at home.
