Tripura Election: voting underway in 4-way fight between BJP-IPFT, Congress-Left, TIPRA Motha, TMC

In the first elections of 2023, the state of Tripura is voting today to choose its new government.

It is a four-way contest with the ruling BJP and ally IPFT facing off against the Opposition alliance of Congress and the Left Front. The TIPRA Motha and the Trinamool Congress are speculated to be vying for the kingmaker role.

28.13 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in 60 constituencies where a total of 259 candidates are contesting.

Officials sealed inter-state and international boundaries to prevent law-and-order issues. 25,000 personnel of central security forces have been deployed to maintain peace and order.

Results of the elections will be declared on 2 March.
