A face-off broke out in the Rajya Sabha on 9 February 2023 after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge objected to the deletion of some of his remarks made during a statement in the Parliament.

The Congress MP said, "In my speech, there was no unparliamentary language or allegations against anyone. But you pick and choose some words. I wouldn't say that you didn't understand. But if you had some doubt, then you could've enquired in a different manner. But in 6 places, you expunged what I said, like 'Mouni Baba'."

To this, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar said, "What I have expunged should not be used."

Kharge responded, "Narasimha Rao was called this by Vajpayee. Check in the records."

Then defending fellow MP Jairam Ramesh, the Congress chief said, "When the Chief Whip says something on behalf of the party, you repeatedly object by saying 'this is wrong', 'you sit down', 'you read'. He's very well-educated. He was a student at Harvard University. He speaks Hindi, Kannada, English. Which other languages should he speak? He knows parliamentary language."
