Newly elected Congress MLAs in Karnataka on Sunday authorised party president Mallikarjun Kharge to pick the next chief minister, with the leadership battle heating up between Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar - the frontrunners for the coveted post.

Following the decision by the CLP, supporters of both leaders gathered outside the meet venue in Bengaluru and raised slogans in favour of their leader.

Heavy police deployment has also been made to avoid any untoward incident.
