In September 2013, Rahul Gandhi, then Vice-President of the Congress, stunned reporters and his own party members by publicly tearing into an ordinance introduced by his own government.

The ordinance - granting protection to lawmakers from immediate disqualification if they are jailed for 2 years or more. The Congress was trying to bring back a provision of the Representation of the People Act that would prevent MPs or MLAs from being disqualified for 3 months. The provision had been struck down by the Supreme Court in July of 2013.

10 years later, in an ironical twist, Rahul Gandhi faces disqualifaction as an MP after being sentenced to prison for 2 years in a defamation case.
