Following a meeting of all newly-elected MLAs of the Congress in Karnataka on May 14, 2023, party leader Randeep Surjewala commented on how long it might take for the announcement of the name of the new Chief Minister.
He said that Congress chief Kharge is a son of the soil of Karnataka, and he will "not take long" in deciding the next Chief Minister of the state.
During a Congress Legislature Party meeting on May 14, the MLAs passed a resolution asking party chief Kharge to select the new CM. DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah are considered the frontrunners for the post.
Congress swept the election, winning 135 of 224 seats, while the ruling BJP was limited to 66.
