A fresh controversy has erupted over Rahul Gandhi's ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.

BJP leader Amit Malviya tweeted a video clip of the march on 21 December 2022, claiming that Jitendra Singh, a former Union minister, had gone down on his knees to tie Rahul Gandhi's shoe laces. Malviya called Gandhi an "arrogant, entitled brat".

The Congress responded by tweeting photographs which showed that Jitendra Singh's shoe laces were untied, and not Rahul Gandhi's.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also tweeted a photograph of a shoe, claiming that it was Rahul Gandhi's and that it does not have laces which need to be tied.

Congress leader Jitendra Singh attacked Malviya, accusing him of spreading defamatory lies. He said that he was tying his own shoe laces, and the BJP leader must delete his tweet and apologise to Rahul Gandhi, or face legal action.
