A purported video showing a woman and a man being brutally assaulted in Chopra area of West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district has surfaced. The duo were beaten with sticks for allegedly having an extramarital affair.

BJP and CPI(M) alleged that the perpetrator is a TMC worker named Tajemul, who is popularly known as JCB.

BJP's Amit Malviya said that Tajemul is famous for giving quick justice through his ‘insaf sabha' and is a close associate of Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahman.

"There is no semblance of law and order in Bengal. Will Mamata Banerjee act against this monster or defend him like she stood up for Sheikh Shahjahan?" asked Malviya in a post on X.

CPI(M) leader Md Salim said that Tajemul is also a murder accused.

"Murderers remain at large, travesty of justice continues in Bengal," said Salim.

Both opposition parties slammed Mamata Banerjee's rule in the state.
