The chief of India's space agency ISRO has said that many principles of science and mathematics originated in ancient India, and were taken to Europe, where they were later labelled as discoveries of Western scientists.

ISRO chairman S Somanath made the comments at the convocation of the Maharishi Panini Sanskrit and Vedic University in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh on May 24, 2023.

He reportedly said that algebra, square roots, concepts of time, architecture, the structure of the universe, metallurgy, and aviation were first mentioned in the Vedas.
