A day after violent clashes erupted across different cities of Uttar Pradesh over the controversial remarks of now-sacked BJP functionaries on Prophet Mohammad, Saharanpur police took action against the accused.
The police on Saturday reached the residences of two accused along with a team of the local civic body to raze parts of their house claiming illegal construction.
'Residential premises of two arrested accused were illegal and without permission. We've taken action with bulldozers. More people are being identified. There will be coordinated action on any illegal properties found. We'll put NSA as well,' Saharanpur SSP Akash Tomar told news agency ANI.
He added that 64 people have been arrested in Saharanpur and more than 200 identified in connection with the clashes.
Uttar Pradesh police arrested 237 people from various districts in the state in connection with Friday's violence with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warning of "strictest" action against those attempting to vitiate the atmosphere.
