Punjab is actively working on the conservation and restoration of historical monuments and tourist sites across the state.
Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, while addressing a question in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, stated that the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is committed to preserving and restoring historically significant monuments and tourist destinations across various districts.
He added that if the Bathinda district administration submits a proposal to develop Bathinda lakes into a food hub or a tourism site, the Punjab government will prioritize it.
Responding to MLA Jagroop Singh Gill’s query, Tarunpreet Singh Sond reiterated that if the Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda submits a detailed proposal for the beautification and development of Bathinda lakes as a tourist attraction and food hub, the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department will take immediate action.
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also shared his perspective, emphasizing that Punjab is one of the most scenic regions in the world, featuring mountains, rivers, lakes, and diverse weather conditions. He highlighted the state's historical forts and religious sites, showcasing Punjab’s rich cultural, religious, and natural heritage. The Speaker proposed that a comprehensive plan should be developed to enhance tourism in Punjab.
In response, Tarunpreet Singh Sond affirmed that Punjab offers a unique tourism experience and that the government is already working on several projects. He assured that upcoming initiatives will further boost Punjab’s tourism sector and contribute to its development.
