Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Patwari Accepting Rs 20,000 Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday has apprehended Patwari Surjit Singh, posted at Qila Lal Singh in Gurdaspur district for accepting a bribe of Rs 20000.

An official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Varinder Singh, a resident of village Qila Lal Singh in Gurdaspur.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that his land was acquired by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for construction of expressway and the accused Patwari has demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 for making a report in his favor to include three borewells on the land.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary enquiry into this complaint the VB team laid a trap during which the accused was caught red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. 

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station, Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigations into this case was under progress.
