Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the Congress candidate for Rajya Sabha polls in Himachal Pradesh lost despite the party being in power in the state.

Addressing a press conference after the results were declared, Singhvi said that BJP's Harsh Mahajan and him secured 34 votes each and the winner was decided by a draw of lots.

The considerable setback for Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's government in Himachal Pradesh came after 6 Congress MLAs and 3 independents voted in favour of the BJP in Tuesday's Rajya Sabha elections.

The Congress has 40 MLAs in the 68-member assembly and the BJP has 25.
