Facing flak over alleged sexist and vile remarks against BJP MP Hema Malini, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala clarified that the video shared by the BJP was distorted and that he never intended to hurt the actor-turned-politician.
The whole row began when BJP's IT cell head Amit Malviya shared an undated video of the Congress leader, where he was heard making objectionable statements about Hema Malini.
In the video posted by Malviya on X, Surjewala was seen purportedly making some objectionable remarks about the actor-politician while attacking the ruling BJP.
Hours later, Surjwala shared the clip of the same event, slamming BJP's attempt to spread fake news.
"BJP's IT Cell has developed a habit of editing, distorting and spreading fake news so that it can distract the country from the Modi government's anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and failures and its conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India," he said.
In the video posted by Surjewala, he was seen saying, “We also respect Hema Malini a lot because she is married to Dharmendra ji and is our daughter-in-law."
Meanwhile, the Haryana State Women Commission has summoned Surjewala over his objectionable remarks.
