The appointment of Heeralal Samariya as the Chief Information Commissioner has triggered a row with the leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury writing to President Droupadi Murmu, saying he was “totally kept in the dark” about the selection.
The Congress MP is the Opposition member in the Prime Minister-headed high-powered three-member selection committee which also has Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
According to The Indian Express, Chowdhury in his letter to the President pointed out that the government neither consulted nor informed him about the selection.
Rules dictate that the three-member panel must decide on the CIC candidate and send a recommendation to the President.
