The Manipur police have said that the Meitei couple who were kidnapped and murdered in July had ignored an advice from Kuki village volunteers to return to their areas.

According to the police report, the couple was later spotted by armed Kuki militants who took them to an unknown destination before executing them.

As per the initial probe, the couple, who were in a relationship, had eloped on July 6. They were spotted at a stone quarry near Laika before reaching Jouzangtek. Around 8 a.m., Singh picked up the girl from her tuition centre at Keishampat Mutum Leikhai in Imphal.

The 17-year-old girl's father had filed a case of abduction against her 20-year-old lover.
