Sonam Wangchuk, the inspiration behind the character of Phunsukh Wangdu in the movie '3 Idiots', has begun a 5-day fast to save Ladakh from global warming.

Posting a video of himself in -20 degrees Celsius from the roof of the Himalayan Institute of Alternative Ladakh, Wangchuk said he had been denied permission to go to Khardungla for his fast as roads were blocked due to snow. He added that authorties had also cited threat to his health since the temperatures in Khardungla had dipped to -40 degrees Celsius.

Wangchuk started his 5-day fast on January 26.
