A Jammu and Kashmir police officer, whose son was slain in an anti-militancy operation in Kulgam district in 2020, was killed in a terror attack in Srinagar in which two other policemen were also injured.

Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Lone and his collegues were manning a check-post in Lal Bazar locality of Srinagar when terrorists fired at them from a close range on Tuesday evening. Reports said while Mushtaq died at the spot, two policemen received bullet wounds and were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Armed forces launched a search operation after the attack but the terrorists managed to flee.

The deceased officer's son, Aqib Mushtaq Lone was killed in an encounter in Guddar area in his native Kulgam district in April 2020. Aqib had completed engineering from a college in Chandigarh and joined militant ranks soon after.
