India's IT hub Bengaluru is facing a severe water crisis due to a prolonged drought.

According to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, 223 out of the 236 Taluks in the state are drought-hit. 219 of them are severely affected.

The water levels of the Cauvery river have dropped significantly due to inadequate rainfall in 2023. This has affected water supply for people as well as irrigation.

The Economic Times reported that key Cauvery river water reservoirs are at 39% of their capacity.

The water levels in the city's borewells are also fast depleting.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that out of the 14,781 borewells under Bengaluru's civic bodies, 6,997 have stopped giving water.
