Around 530 Indians have been evacuated so far from war-torn Sudan, officials said on April 26, 2023.

The Indian Air Force and Navy have deployed planes and ships to help with the rescue efforts under Operation Kaveri.

An IAF Garud Special Forces officer was seen carrying a child onto a C-130J aircraft during one of the evacuation sorties.

Around 250 Indians in two batches have been flown out of Sudan on IAF planes, while the Navy's INS Sumedha carried over 270 people.

India has set up a transit facility in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and all the evacuees are being taken there, before being brought to India.
