Supreme Court refuses to accept Modi govt's sealed cover note on OROP arrears. Here's why

The Supreme Court sent a strong message to the Narendra Modi government on 20 March 2023 as it refused to accept the Centre's submission on the One Rank One Pension issue in a sealed cover.

A 3-judge bench including the Chief Justice of India said, "We need to put an end to this sealed cover practice in the Supreme Court. This is fundamentally contrary to the basic process of fair justice."

CJI DY Chandrachud said that he is "personally averse" to sealed covers as there has to be "transparency in court".

The case relates to the payment of OROP arrears to ex-service personnel.
