Tahir Hussain, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots, was released from Tihar Jail on Thursday morning to file his nomination papers for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Sources confirmed he was granted custody parole by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday to allow him to complete the formalities for the February 5 polls. Hussain, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, has been fielded by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) as their candidate for the Mustafabad constituency.
According to jail sources, Hussain was released under heavy security provided by the Delhi Police and left the jail premises around 9:15 am. His parole is linked to his involvement in a murder case related to the violence that erupted in northeast Delhi on February 24, 2020, which resulted in the deaths of 53 people and left many others injured.
